Become an Instructor
If you have held a full UK Driving Licence for three and a half years or more you may be able to train as a Driving Instructor.
The training consists of 3 parts and you must successfully complete an exam for each part.
The Part 1 exam is a 2-part Theory Test Consisting of 100 multiple choice questions. You must achieve an overall score of 85% minimum, and at least 80% in each of the four categories of question. The second part is a Hazard Perception Test where you will be shown 14 video clips in which there will be 15 hazards, you must identify all 15 hazards in good time to achieve the pass mark of 56/75. You must be successful in both parts at one sitting otherwise you will have to re-sit both parts.
The Part 2 exam is a Practical Driving Test. The Test lasts for about one hour and you will be required to show an extremely high standard of driving on all road types. You may be asked to perform at least 4 manoeuvres and two emergency stops (one at high speed). You must not commit more than six 'minor' errors throughout the drive.

The Part 3 exam is a Test of Ability to Give Instruction. Your examiner will role-play the part of Pupil. You will be asked to give two half-hour lessons to the 'pupil'. The first lesson will be to a novice 'pupil' so you will be introducing a task for the first time. The second lesson will be to a more advanced 'pupil' so you will be brushing-up on skills they already have. You must be able to fault-find and remedy any problems which may occur, and the 'pupil' must demonstrate improvement by the end of both lessons.
If you are unsuccessful with any of the exams you may re-sit the exam a maximum of three times. You must also complete Parts 2 & 3 within 2 years of the first attempt at Part 1. If three unsuccessful attempts are made in any of the exams you may start again at Part 1 but only after the expiration of this 2 year period.
Ignition Tuition helps you through the Test by offering a number of packages tailored to your needs and budget, from simple 'Pay-as-you-go tuition to a complete pre-payment course.
